Momma's Boys
Does anyone besides me and my mother watch this show? It's like a train wreck that you just can't tear your eyes away from, even though you know what's about to happen. I am usually not into reality TV shows, but this one is great!! 32 women start off in one huge mansion. Each of them are trying to win the affections of not only 3 men, but their MOM'S!! The moms live in this house with them. It's only been on for 3 weeks now, but it has fast become a favorite of mine. The only problem is that it's on Monday nights, the same time as my beloved Prison Break. And now another favorite show of mine, House, is also moving to Mondays. Thank heaven for TiVo.

Next time, a little warning please!
So today I get up early (OK, 7am. It's early to me!) and go to the dermatologist's office to have some moles looked at. I try to go at least once every year, especially since I have had a lot of sun burns over the years. Living in Florida does that to you. Anyhow, it is decided that I need to have 3 removed. Mostly because they irritate me, not because they look dangerous. Well 2 of them are large and need to have a little numbing shot first. Normally the shots don't hurt at all (and I am a HUGE baby, so when I say it does not hurt, it really doesn't), but this time they burned. I'm told it happens when the moles are big. The shots work and I'm blissfully pain free while she removes them. Then comes the 3rd one. It's so tiny that she didn't think it needed to be numb. So when she steps away, the assistant comes up to me and burns it off! OMG!!! "Oops" she says. She thought the PA numbed me up first! I'm glad my kids weren't with me, because I said a few things that no minor child needs to hear their mother say. *sigh* At least I don't have to go back for another 6 months.

Can I have a Hamster?
Years ago I told my husband that I wanted to try and become a surrogate. Even though it's been a few years, it has always been in the back of my mind. It's something that I haven't taken lightly. Well, recently I have been in contact with a company in California, who has already accepted the first part of my application! Nothing has been decided and even if I pass all the tests, I might find that it's not for me. We'll see. Anyhow, tonight at dinner, I was telling Declan about what I wanted to do. He had all the expected questions and I told him what I thought a 6 year old needed to understand. Our conversation went something like:
Me: "I've been thinking of trying to be a surrogate."
Declan: "What's a surrogate?"
"Well, I would grow a baby in my tummy for someone else."
"Why can't they grow their own?"
"Well, sometimes a mommy's tummy doesn't work right. Mine does, so I can give them something that they really want. A baby."
"I think you should you give them Maeve."
"Um, no. I would grow their own baby for them. When the baby is born, they take it home with them and take care of him or her."
"Can I have a hamster?"
"I think you are missing the point here. And NO! You cannot have a hamster!"

And now, we rest.
I'm sorry that it's been a very long time since I've posted anything. Everything has been so crazy this past week. My daughter had her girl scout ceremony/cookie swap last Monday. Oh My Goodness! We left with 6 dozen cookies that were out of this world. My new favorite is a red velvet cookie that is almost like a moon pie with cream cheese filling. So good!! My parents came into town Monday night to spend the holidays with us. I love when my parents come to visit. They live in another state and I miss seeing them every weekend, like I used to when Aislinn and Aidan were small. We went to Mass on Christmas Eve like we do every year. This year, we decided to try a new church. Still Catholic, just a different one. We got there an hour early, because in the past if we didn't, we ended up standing the entire time. Well, I guess not too many people go to this church, because it was not nearly as crowded as we expected. However, it is a small church, and really beautiful, and I think I will go back. Christmas morning was a lot of fun. I woke up at 5am and couldn't go back to sleep! I still get very excited even though I'm beyond my childhood years. I heard the boys talking about 6 and since they have been told NOT to come out of their room until 6:30, I wanted to check on them anyhow. As I get to their bedroom door, I notice that the bells I hang on their doorknob (so I can hear them if they get up) were gone!! Apparently my 6 year old very quietly took them off, hid them under his bed, and went out to investigate while we were sleeping! He even confessed to me that he does this every year. WHAT!!?! So much for trying to capture that "first look" when they come into the living room!! Oh well. This year, we didn't video record them. It gets too crazy. Well, within an hour, my kids tore through everything. (And I've got plenty of pictures to scrapbook.) My son Declan got a new bike, (which he thought was Aidan's - so much for peeking!) Aidan got a Ripstick, Aislinn got her Nintendo DS and Maeve got her tent and a new, pink calculator. Not sure what my 3 year old needs that for, but it's what she asked for and Santa did not disappoint. Me, I got something that *sparkles*!! MY OWN diamond earrings, courtesy of my mom and dad!! I love them! Now I don't have to borrow Aislinn's. I do have a few returns, but I didn't feel like going out and dealing with that. My parents left at noon today and Maeve cried. All she wanted was for her Nana and Papa to stay, it was so sad. So today was spent playing board games, putting together puzzles, playing new Wii games and watching movies. I hope you all had a very good Christmas! I'll add pictures later.

I may not be Martha Stewart
but I can make cookies. I spent most of yesterday baking eggnog cookies for my cookie swap tomorrow night. I can't wait. I made probably close to 10 dozen. I gave 2 dozen to my neighbor, who happens to be very nice to my 6 year old son. She gave him several snowmen decorations yesterday and tonight gave him a huge ceramic Santa cookie jar! She is very sweet and my son loves to visit her. I have saved 4 dozen for my swap and the rest, well, they are staying here at the house.
Last night Joe and I took the kids to see Santa at the Ludy house. Visit their website (http://www.ludychristmas.com/). Their house is amazing. Anyhow, Maeve took a little nap on the way over, but when I tapped her on the shoulder and said that Santa was here, my God that child couldn't get out of her carseat fast enough! Her eyes just flew open and she was ready to go see him. This girl was in no way afraid of him at all. She walked right over and gave him a hug and her list of toys! When it was time to give another child a turn, she was not happy. She was under the impression that she was getting her presents last night. Oops.
Then, I had to practically drag my oldest 2 up to see Santa and sit on his lap. I think Aislinn was afraid someone she knew was going to drive by and see her. The things we moms make our kids do just for a photo!! Of course, once up there, Aidan couldn't get a word in to let him know what HE wanted for Christmas!!
Tonight, I had Aislinn help me make rum balls. My God, they are sooo good and very easy to make! No cooking involved. We made chocolate and vanilla. Tomorrow I have to seperate some for the swap. The rest are MINE!!
Gotta run, Prison Break is on!!

On the 1st day of Christmas.....
my cat decided to knock our tree over.
Joe and I hadn't even fallen asleep yet, when just after midnight we heard a crash. Joe made the comment that he hoped the tree didn't catch on fire, since the fire in our fireplace hadn't gone out yet. My only thought was that the cat had better be dead. As it turns out, 2 sets of lights and several ornaments were broken beyond repair. Great. So, after we stood the tree back up, we took the rest of the ornaments off in case the tree fell again and the cat was tossed into the garage for the rest of the night. This morning I had to take the tree apart in order to put it back up the right way. Not how I wanted to start off my Saturday. In a minute, I'm off to start holiday baking. Cookies...mmmmmmm! Have a nice day!

catch a buzz
Well for the past 2 days it has rained. And rained. I am about 2 inches away from having my pool flood! When I left to take my kids to school this morning, there were wires across the road, leaves everywhere and tree limbs down. The power was out at my kids' school, so they told ghost stories! The kids love it.
After going home to shower, I decided that I really needed to get out and buy those last few things for the holiday parties, teacher gifts, etc. Well, when I walked outside, I was taken aback. I've seen buzzards before, but these were HUGE! After making sure that Maeve was secure in her carseat so as to not get carried away by one of these, I ran back inside to get my camera (naturally!).
While I was taking a picture of these guys, several more were flying in circles over my head. Yes, I know that I am big enough to feed them for quite a while, but geez, I'm not dead yet! I'm glad I didn't leave the dog outside.

Scrapbooker's Poem
Now I'm not going to name names, but I know of several gals that should read this!!
Twas the night before Christmas, I'm glued to the tree.
I'm wondering what Santa brought just for me.
Could it be cardstock or chipboard or lace?
Or a Cricut, I said, with a smile on my face.
And that's when I heard him, "Hi Santa, " I said
"You know....good little girls should be in their beds."
"I know I should Santa, and now I've been caught.
But I was just so excited to see what you brought."
"Well, let's take a look in this room where you work.
He shook his head quickly, And left with a jerk.
I heard him exclaim as he put it in gear.
"You've got enough crap, I'll see you next year!"

Happy Wednesday!!
Happy hump day everyone! Today was a perfect day to take a nap. You know the kind, when it's raining and dreary outside. So, after Maeve and I took the rest of the tribe to school, we went back home and curled up on the sofa to spend the next 45 minutes drifting off. It was nice to just stay home and not leave the house until it was time to pick everyone up. I know Maeve loved it. We spent our time napping, playing games and doing puzzles. It was perfect. Of course, now it's 11 pm and I can't sleep.

Yikes!!
How many days are left until Christmas??? Only 17!! Boy it seems like December is just flying by. It was nice and cold last night, which I love. I took my kids out to look at Christmas lights. We drove around listening to Christmas music and looking at all the decorations. It always puts me in a good mood. As a result, I ended up going out to Target this morning and buying 5 more boxes of lights! I also found another 10 sets in a box in my garage. When it gets a little darker I'm going out to put them all up. Thankfully I'm all done my Christmas shopping and even have my cards sent out. Now I can sit back and just enjoy. At least until my family asks me to make some eggnog cookies.
I know I'm lucky
Lately it seems that I've been so frustrated with my kids. They are always arguing with each other, and me & Joe. However I was talking with a friend of mine today and she mentioned to me that I was lucky my kids are the way they are. And it's true. My oldest daughter, Aislinn, is very bright. I never have to ask her if her homework is done. She just does it right away. My son, Aidan, is the most thoughtful one. Every time he is invited to a birthday party, he always wants to bring a goody bag or something home for his brother and sisters. Declan has so much energy. He'll play anything you want, he only wants to spend time with you. Maeve is so sweet and lovable. She's an absolute joy and I love to listen to her giggle. Yes, my kids drive me crazy at least once every day, but sometimes I need to sit back and realize just how great they all are.

Sing it with me now!!!
Go ahead, I sing it every time I look at his mug. I just can't seem to help it.
My son "got tired of his 2 front teeth being loose", so he pulled them out!!

Busy, busy, busy!!
Has it really been 2 weeks since I posted last? Well, between my computer acting up, being sick (for days at a time), and then going out of town for Thanksgiving, it's no wonder. I'm back now and have been very busy, as I'm sure everyone has. Right before we left for Florida, to spend the holiday with my mother in law, I was trying to get the house in order so I wouldn't have to do it when I got back. While in the middle of drying my last load of laundry, my dryer broke. I hate that. I know it could've been worse and I could have been on my first load, but it still makes me mad. As I sit here typing, I am waiting for my new dryer to be delivered. I have sooo much laundry to do, I cannot even see my bedroom floor!
Also, I finally convinced my husband to move my oldest daughter's bed to my youngest daughter's room, which left my oldest daughter sleeping either with me, on the sofa, or the floor. The expense of the bed I knew we had coming, but NOT a new appliance. I'm also waiting for the bed to be delivered.
In addition to that, our two vans need new brakes. It seems that the Honda's (in my family anyway) always need brakes at the Christmas holiday!! Oh well. Enough complaining.
We had a nice trip to Florida. I spent most of my time in the car though, traveling back and forth between my in-laws and my parents house. Each year, me, my mom, my daughter and niece brave the crowds and cold and head out shopping. Early. This year, we started out at 4:30 and went to WM. The line was wrapped around the parking lot! There was even a woman selling Dunkin Donuts and coffee! Fortunately, we didn't have to wait long before they opened. I was able to buy what I was looking for, and hey, no one was trampled to death, so all in all, it was a success. Next, we went to Target and was there before it opened at 6am. Another line. It was crazy! There were people talking on the phone to people in other aisles telling each other what to buy! Again, I was able to get a bunch of stuff. Then it was off to the mall and then out for breakfast where we could sit and refuel. Some genious decided that there would be an annual "Turkey Run" at the Daytona Beach speedway. It's some old car show, and located directly across from the mall and a ton of other stores! We spent 30 minutes (I watched the clock) in the turn lane, just to get to Cracker Barrel!! We were starving and in no mood to wait the 30-45 minutes more just to be seated. So, I wandered around the store, where I spent more money on some really cute ornaments. We decided to brave Toys R Us before heading back home.
We drove home Saturday and spent Sunday putting away fall decorations and taking down the Christmas ones from the attic. Except for the lights, my kids decorated our tree last night. They did a pretty good job, too! Now if my cat would stay OUT of the tree, I'd be much happier!

Karma
This weekend was filled with house cleaning. I had been going room by room with garbage bags getting rid of clutter. I cannot stand piles of stuff lying around. Either use it or put it away!! It drives me nuts. Well, both of my boys share a room, so I really didn't want to tackle THAT project. However, 3 garbage bags and a box later, it's finally clean. While stripping the top bunk bed so I can wash the sheets, I found 3 charms. I specifically told my son not to bring money to school to buy these. Well, when I saw that he did it anyway, and then lied to me about it, I flipped out. I was so ready to take them to Nebraska and leave them at a hospital and come home. And I told them so. Well, it turns out that those charms were a Christmas gift for my husband and me. Great, now I have guilt!! My 9 year old son was sobbing that he wanted to kill himself, that he wanted to be alone and that we ruined his Christmas surprise. (I wonder where all that drama comes from?) Nothing makes a mom feel more guilty than knowing it's all her fault. Did I mention that I am also sick with a bad headcold? It figures.

Be still my beating Heart
Yeah!!! Kenny Chesney won CMA's Entertainer of the Year award! Don't you just love his voice? Not too bad on the eyes either!! I told my husband a long time ago that if KC ever showed up at our front door, I was outta here! So far, my husband is feeling pretty secure. In the meantime, I'm just going to have to settle for the 6' cutout of him that I'm getting (once the store is finished with it)! *sigh*

I am sooo
exhausted! I had a really good time this past weekend at Wrapper's Delight. I took some classes, won some prizes, finished a book, played some games and visited with friends. It was especially nice to see Elizabeth, who moved out of town 6 months ago. It went by way too fast. We drove home very late Saturday night and I didn't get into bed until 3am! I am too old for that. My youngest woke me up at 8:30, and for some reason I had all this energy and spent the day doing laundry and cleaning the house. I even cleaned the floorboards! Well, it was too good to last. I crashed this afternoon and slept like a baby. (Below is a mini slideshow of WD.)
I also started a diet yesterday. So far, so good. I really, really, really wanted to join Boot Camp again, but cannot justify spending that kind of money right before the holidays. So out I went last night, into the cold air, and ran for just under 2 miles. Surprisingly I didn't collapse! The air felt great and I could smell the fireplaces going. I love fall!! I think I'll head out again in a few minutes. Have a good night.

Cutest little turkey
Well I thought I'd try and start a second blog to show craft things that I've been working on. As it turns out, I can hardly keep up with one blog, let alone another. So I decided to just combine them. Since I haven't posted anything on my other blog, this is pretty easy!! Anyhow, this past weekend I went to a Stampin Up! workshop and made this cute little turkey! I'm thinking of making a few more and using them as place cards this Thanksgiving. Isn't he cute!!
The problem with making really cute stuff is that I never want to give it away or use it! I can't wait to see what we are going to do next month. In the meantime, I am getting really excited about Wrapper's Delight!! It's in just 3 days, but I get to leave in 2! (Hee hee! So excited.) I have been having these nightmares that I get there and while I have all of my scrapbook stuff, I have forgotten clean clothes! At least I bring the essentials, right? I found out that another girl from B'ham is joining us. I'm looking forward to that because I haven't seen her since she moved. It will be great to catch up. Hopefully I will have some of my own creations to show you when I get back. Have a great day.
Last month we made little Halloween treat boxes and toppers for pixie sticks. I love them! So cute.

Get out and VOTE!!
This morning I voted. I heard that the polls were opening up at 6:30 this morning, so I got up early and headed out. I took my 3 oldest kids with me so they could see how it works. At first they were really excited, but then when they realized they had to stand in line and wait, it got old fast! (Apparently the doors open at 6:30, but you can't vote until 7am.) I brought my kids to the booth with me and when I inserted my card, the ballot popped up. I showed them what it looked like and all of them tried to push the button for who they wanted! Each of them wanted to know who I was voting for. I don't tell that to anyone. That's the great thing about a secret ballot. It's SECRET!! I don't even tell my husband who I vote for. Anyhow, in line my youngest was trying to get me to tell him. He was asking me if the candidate I wanted was white or black! Kids can be so funny sometimes. Well, get out and do your civic duty ~ VOTE!!

Too Cute to Spook
Today is Halloween!! My kids love this holiday. I have to admit, I love it also! I can remember as a kid getting dressed up in our plastic costumes with the masks, and then putting on heavy winter coats to go out trick or treating. Of course, I lived up north then. This year was my youngest daughter's first time trick or treating. She's 3. At first she didn't want to even put her costume on, but once it was on her and she saw herself in the mirror, she didn't want to take it off! Even without her costume, she is a princess.
Once the sugar rush wears off I am heading to bed. Tomorrow we are going to the Montgomery Zoo. I hear that it's pretty nice. Hopefully the weather will be good and I can get lots of pictures.
My oldest daughter was the Bride of Darkness. She wore the same costume last year, but this time added white face paint and sprayed her hair black. For some reason, she always get comments on her costume!
My oldest son decided that he was too old to trick or treat and wanted to just go around the neighborhood with his friends and scare little kids instead! However, I did see him later on during the night with a bag of candy. So much for being too old!!
My youngest son went out as a blue power ranger this year. He is 6 and really gets into the thought of free candy. Who can blame him?
This year I bought a costume and went out with them! I was the queen. This dress is pretty cool. It has a hoop skirt, so unfortunately it makes you look much larger than you are! Oh well.
Once the sugar rush wears off I am heading to bed. Tomorrow we are going to the Montgomery Zoo. I hear that it's pretty nice. Hopefully the weather will be good and I can get lots of pictures.
I hope everyone had a nice, and safe, night!!

Finally Fall!!
I love the fall!! It's my favorite season, when the weather changes and you can tell someone has their fireplace going just by the smell in the air (rather than lighter fluid from backyard bbq's). I like seeing the leaves change colors and hearing them crunch when you step on them. I like to wear warm sweaters, see my breath when I talk and have that "rosy cheeks" look. It's the most perfect time of year.
I decided to take Maeve up to Warm Springs to look at the leaves changing colors. When I lived in New England I only had to look out the window, but here in the south, if I want to see red and gold leaves, I have to drive to them. It's true what they say. Once you don't have something anymore, you realize how much you miss it. Anyhow, I did manage to see a red tree or two, but most of them are still green. Sorry the photo didn't come out great, I took it through the windshield because it started raining when we got there! Story of my life!!

I put up a few decorations for the holidays. You have to when you have little kids. Maeve likes climbing on the bales of hay! Hmm, it's missing something - oh yeah! Pumpkins!! I haven't made it to the pumpkin patch yet. It's on my to-do list, along with a hundred other things! This past Friday night I went to my kids' school's fall festival. I bid on a few silent auction items, and WON!! I can't list a couple of them because they are Christmas gifts, but the scrapbook basket is all mine!!
Tomorrow I am having someone from my cable company come out to fix my phone, cable and computer problems. I've had no home phone, and my computer has only started working today. If I had a home business, I'd be out of business by now. They'll be here sometime between 8 and 12. Nothing like sitting around all day waiting. Maybe I can clean something? Nah.

I'm baaaaack!
Since there was no school on Monday or Tuesday, I decided to take my kids for a quick trip to Florida for the weekend. It wasn't a planned trip or anything. It really depended on report cards. Well, Aislinn was right, she had all A's and 1 B. Aidan, who never said a word, got all A's!! Even Declan brought home a great card. He is in Kindergarten so they don't get the letter grade yet. More like "Meets", "Exceeds", etc. He either exceeds in everything or meets the requirements for the grade. His teachers are always commenting on how smart he is. Enough on my genius kids!!
So, we didn't really have an agenda while we were in Florida. I had thought I'd take them to a theme park. It didn't happen. First off, the car ride there was from hell. From the time we left the driveway, the kids argued almost the WHOLE way! Did I mention that it's about a 7 hour ride? I also forgot my sunglasses. Not a big deal, but when you get really bad headaches daily, the sunglasses are a blessing. Less than an hour after we got to my mom and dad's place, Aislinn and Declan started arguing over who gets which cupcake! Give me a break - it's flour and water!! Well, Aislinn pushed Declan into a kitchen cabinet and it broke. Do you have any idea how hard you need to hit a cabinet for it to break?! In the end, Aidan got that cupcake. They also picked at their supper and complained about it. When did my kids decide that they are entitled to things and get bratty? They sure act that way. Needless to say, I think my parents were glad to see us go.
Before I went to my mother-in-law's house, I met up with an old friend of mine, Sally, from high school. I haven't seen her in over 11 years. We met at her sister Mary's house for a cookout. Well, between Sally, Mary and myself, we have 11 children. Talk about outnumbered! Their ages are from 3 - 18. See them all! A good looking bunch of kiddos! I miss seeing them already. It's amazing how fast kids grow up. I was there when several of these kids were born, and I'm not talking about my own. Anyhow, in high school I used to be very thin. I mean, I wore a size 3 at graduation! I figured rather than worry about the weight I've gained over the years, told myself we all probably gained some weight, right? Humph. Apparently God has a funny sense of humor. Mary and Sally look exactly the same as they did years ago. Where are my anti-depressants!! Time to do something about it. I mean it. This time, I really mean it. Well, at least I'll try. What can I say, I love food. Til later....

Part 2
My phone is working again! We just got our service back this morning. Pretty soon our phone will be ringing off the hook and we will wish it didn't work. For now, friends of my kids are calling my cell phone!! They can't remember to do their chores or homework, but my cell phone number is just resting at the tip of their tongues waiting for a friend to ask what it is.
This coming Monday and Tuesday my kids are having their "fall break" at school. I was thinking of taking the kids to Florida to see my parents. I know that they were just here, but now that gas is dropping I thought it would be nice to take advantage of it. Who knows, next month over Thanksgiving it could be back up, and we won't be going anywhere. If I do go to Florida, I thought I'd take the kids to a theme park. Maybe Sea World or one of the Disney parks. Not sure yet, still undecided.
I stumbled across a new site/blog today. It's a Cuttlebug Challenge blog. It provides so many great ideas. Folders that I have never been interested in, are starting to look appealing. Not such great news for my husband!! Actually the folders are pretty cheap and if you have a hobby lobby or Michael's, you can get them even cheaper. Gotta love a bargain. I promise to create something soon and post a picture. Not now though. I'm off to bed.

School Days and More
Yesterday I had a conference with my one of my daughter's teachers. I've never met her and wanted to see how Aislinn was doing. I am happy to say that all went well. Report cards come out tomorrow. If she is telling me the truth, she will have all A's and 1 B. My son, however, isn't saying a word. I'm sure he will do just fine. Last year they were both in a private school. I would have liked to have kept them there, but the tuition spiked way up. That and the gas hike wasn't going to cut it this year. The public school seems to be working out. My youngest son went there last year and liked it. I also had good experiences with the teachers and administration. Plus the school is only 3 miles away. So, it's like getting a pay increase this year!
Declan had his birthday party this past Saturday at the karate studio. He liked it and wants to have it there next year, too! Even though the kids from his class at school didn't come (or even RSVP, but that's another story and a HUGE pet peeve of mine), we had not only a good number of kids come, but the right mix of kids. No one got hurt and they all had a great attitude. I hope they all had fun. I know at least one did, his mom booked his party right then and there.
Today I made a cake. Yup, I baked. Betty Crocker I am not, but every now and then I manage to come up with something worth sharing. Anyhow it's called Butterscotch Swirl Cake. My kids were all excited and couldn't wait to dig in. The problem: my husband asked me to make it so he can take it to work tomorrow. Oops. Looks like next time I have to make 2 so my kids can have some. I first made it for Father's Day and it was so good, my son requested it for his birthday! Want the recipe...
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
6 eggs
3 teaspoons rum extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup (8 oz.) sour cream
1 package (3.4 oz.) instant butterscotch pudding mix
3/4 cup butterscotch ice cream topping
GLAZE:
1/4 cup butter, cubed
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
In large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add 5 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in extracts. Combine the flour, baking soda and baking powder; add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, beating well after each addition.
Transfer 2 cups of batter to another large mixing bowl; beat in the pudding mix, butterscotch topping and remaining egg until well blended.Pour half of the plain better into a greased and floured 10-in. fluted tube pan. Top with half of the butterscotch batter; cut through with a knife to swirl. Repeat layers and swirl.
Bake at 350 for 65-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
For glaze, in a small saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar and mil. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat; add confectioners' sugar and vanilla. Beat until smooth and creamy. Drizzle over cake, sprinkle with pecans.
Yield: 12 servings YUMM-O!!!

No phone service?
No wonder it's been quiet here. I haven't had home phone service for at least 3 days now. It's kind of nice not having to answer the phone, especially when it's just going to be for your daughter anyways. Although when you're waiting for over 15 people to RSVP to a birthday party that you have coming up THIS WEEKEND, it's rather difficult. I mean, how many kids am I supposed to plan for? Hopefully the phone will be restored soon.
This past Sunday I went to my first Stampin Up club. We meet once a month and make some really cute things. I always have a good time getting together with some nice ladies who share the same hobby as myself. Whenever I talk about scrapbooking or stamping, my husband gets this glazed look over his eyes, like he's trying to mentally will himself in front of the television to watch the baseball game. I know he's pretending to listen to be polite, but it's really nice having the conversations with women who get it. Anyhow, this month I got to be the hostess! Yay!! I didn't order hardly anything, mostly used my credit. But I can't wait for everything to get it so I can play with it all.
The rest of the week has been the typical chaos at home. I am almost done organizing my scrapbook room. I'd really like to paint it and add shelves, but for now I will keep it as a dining room. I like staying busy, but today I had a terrible migraine. I don't get them often, but when I do, it's awful. I wanted to just lie down and sleep it off in the dark, but my kids wouldn't let me. Naturally. That's alright. Someday they'll have children of their own and...WAIT! Oh my God! I sound just like my mother!!
I am going to Wrapper's Delight in November. It's a weekend thing in Alabama where you can scrapbook for over 36 hours straight. I am really looking forward to it. I signed up for the secret santa swap and yesterday I received "my person". Armed with everything she had written down on her wish list, I went shopping. I had a lot of fun browsing the stores today looking for just the right things to buy her. I hope she enjoys them. I have to send out one more package this month and then I can meet her at WD. It's going to be a blast!!

Happy Birthday to you, you live in a zoo!
Happy Birthday wishes go out to my beautiful daughter, Aislinn!! These past 11 years have gone by so fast. I remember the day you were born like it was yesterday. You have always been such a joy in our life and each day when I wake up, I thank God for giving me another day to be your mom. I love you. Oh yeah, enjoy your new ipod (and the clothes!)!!

Deja Vu
Ever have deja vu? Lately I have it all the time. I think I need medication. Either that or I am losing my mind.
I've been looking for new music to add to my blog. I heard the end of this song on the radio the other day and have been looking for it ever since. Last night, oh, around 3am. I was wide awake reading a magazine and came across an article about this song, "Mercy" and it's singer. I LOVE this song. It reminds me of the 50's and 60's music. Anyhow, it's been added to my blog, so if you get a minute, listen to it. :)
Well I am all set for company. I've gone to the grocery store and have pretty much cleaned my house. I know that it is going to be completely trashed within minutes of my parent's and son's arrival, but at least it will be clean when they get here.

Is it Thursday already?
My son, Aidan, finished his Disney cruise this morning. He called me all excited to tell me that he bought Webkinz on the ship. Who goes on a Disney cruise and buys something you can get at a store in the mall?? Apparently, my son does. Hopefully when he comes home tomorrow he will have other treasures with him that have those telltale ears on it. He did bring his digital camera, but I guess whenever he took a picture, it only saved until he took another one. God only knows what he has it set on. I am so thankful that my mom took over 500 pictures!! I can't wait to get started scrapbooking them! They are bringing him home and are spending the weekend with us. My daughter, Aislinn, has her birthday Saturday. Right now, it's all about her. She does not want to hear about Aidan's trip at all. She wants all the attention. She's going to be 11. I bought her a really cool gift that she's going to love, but in case she happens to read this, I can't post what it is. :) I told her it's clothes!! Nothing like tormenting a child. hehehe!
So, my friend Michelle had a glitter accident in her scrap room, which has inspired me to get mine in order. I have a lot of stuff, but it's all over the place. Oh, guess what I found in there this afternoon. A scorpion! Near my scrapbook stuff! A scorpion! No matter how many times I say it, it still amazes me. Yes, it was real, and thankfully dead. Apparently I must not have made myself clear when I moved here. I am a city girl. Animals like this need to stay away from me. Dogs and cats along with the occasional bird are fine, but all else - YUCK! Anyhow, I still want to move in another table so I have a separate cutting area. In my mind, the room turns out fabulous and I never want to leave it. Hopefully it will live up to my expectations! When it's all done, maybe I'll post a photo or two.
Yesterday was close to chaos around here. Think you're busy? Three of my kids are into something. Declan has karate on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6pm. Aidan has cub scouts Wednesday evenings at 6:30. Aislinn has soccer on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, games on Saturdays, chorus Wednesday immediately after school, and immediately following that she has girl scouts until 6pm. I have soccer practice on Wednesday evenings with games on Sundays. I am running every day of the week, except Friday. Wednesday is the only day I need to be in four places at once. If anyone can figure out how to do that I'd love to hear it! Anyone??

I hate Mondays
Actually, I don't. The kids go back to school and I can rest up a little from the weekend's activities. Although not today. This morning I had the pleasure of keeping Declan home from school, since he decided to get sick on me. I know, I know. He didn't do it on purpose. And actually, it kept me home and out of the stores spending money. He felt much better tonight and I let him go to karate. He really loves it and is looking forward to his karate party. He turned 6 years old this past Friday. Where did the time go?? Did I celebrate with him at school? No. I did bring in cupcakes that morning for his class, but I wasn't there to sing and take pictures. Bad mom. Instead, I went to the most adorable scrapbook store!! It is called Sweet Memories Scrapbooks. I went with my friend Michelle and we left as soon as the kids were in school! Not too eager were we? We showed up just a couple of minutes after they opened. We would've been there earlier, but couldn't find it! It is THE CUTEST STORE, all painted hot pink with black accents. I loved it!! They carry so much stuff that our LSS doesn't carry. We "oohed" and "aahed" over all of it. It is owned by some very sweet ladies as well. And speaking of sweet, they have fully stocked candy jars for their customers to nibble on while shopping! After taking a needed lunch break, we went back to take one last look and then check out. I didn't do too bad either. When my dear husband asked me how much I spent, I only told him, "Less than Michelle." Some things in a marriage are better left a mystery. Don't you agree?
I spent yesterday trying to kick a head cold. I took an afternoon nap and woke up when my kids told me that they brought home chicken. They left?? I guess I was in a deep sleep. I got up, ate and then left to play soccer. I'm getting too old for this. I mean, the oldest girl on the other team just turned 21!! Give me a break!
Saturday, I took Aidan, Declan and Maeve to the Columbus Airport to do the Young Eagles thing again. This time Declan flew the plane. I think Aidan was scared. He wouldn't even look. I know Maeve was frightened. The death grip on my arm and her crying and yelling at the pilot to "Turn it off! I want to go home!" was a giveaway. Declan was too short to be flying. Each time he leaned, he moved the wheel with him. Well, that turns the plane! It was a very bumpy ride and even I was relieved to be on the ground. Joe can go next time. He took Aislinn to play soccer. After that, it was off to Valdosta to meet my dad. He was picking up Aidan for the week. He is on his Disney cruise. Lucky kid! I really wish I were going, but it's one-on-one time with the grandparents. I hope he takes tons of pictures so I can scrap them.
Well, Prison Break is coming on in a minute, so I have just enough time to get a dish of ice cream!! Sweet Dreams!

Menopause, the Musical
Last night a few friends and I went out. By ourselves, with NO KIDS!! This doesn't happen very often, if at all. We started off by going to a place called the Cannon. Almost every table was seated with women. It appears we all had the same plans. Anyhow, it's downtown Columbus and not a bad place. More like a college hangout/bar. I would have loved to order a drink, but since I was driving, I stuck to sweet tea. After dinner we walked over to the Springer Opera House and saw Menopause the Musical. If you've never heard of it, it is set in Bloomingdale's. Four women who have nothing in common meet over a lingerie table and the fun starts! It covers everything Menopause is about from hot flashes to weight gain, insomnia to sex (with your spouse and by yourself), and "Mother's Little Helper", aka Prozac! When I say that it's hysterical, I mean it. I laughed so hard until I cried. And not like my eyelashes were a little wet either. I had tears streaming down my face and falling onto my shirt. The audience is, of course, mostly women with a few token men here and there. If you've never seen it, you really should go. I would love to go back. It's worth it.

Into the Lion's Den
This morning Maeve called my husband to come and get her up. She still sleeps in a crib, mainly because she has never tried to get out of it. I mean, why should I bother to buy another bed when she is happy sleeping in the crib, right? I have to sooner or later though. She is getting a little too tall for it and will soon be sticking her feet out at the end! Anyhow, she gets up and wanders around looking for Dunkin Donuts. I called her into my room and asked her if Aislinn was up and out of bed yet. Naturally, she wasn't, but since I enjoy a good surprise, I ask anyway, because you never know. So I told Maeve to tell Aislinn to get up. My husband made the comment that it was like sending her into the lion's den! Aislinn likes her sleep and does not like getting woken up. Especially by me. No gently rocking here, no soothing voices to ease her into the day. Nope. I turn the light on and pull the covers off of her body and announce very loudly that it's late and she needs to get up NOW! Lately she has been very moody. I can't wait til her periods start. What fun we will have then!
The other day Declan had his friend *Jake over. (*I promised not to use his real name in order to protect the innocent.) Well, while the boys were playing Jake's mom showed up to gather her beloved and take him home. I said that they were getting along so well and we didn't have any fighting or arguing at all. I started to walk through my living room and saw that the boys were in the back yard looking at our pool. It had turned a very vivid shade of emerald overnight. Anyhow, when I walked over to get the key so I could unlock the door and call Jake in, I happened to ask out loud "What are they doing?" Well, the words were still hanging in the air when Jake pulled down his shorts to show off the pride of his childhood and then he peed in my pool!! You know, I've never actually SEEN the color drain from someone's face before. I mean, I've heard the saying, but one look at his mom, and I knew she was mortified. Of course, there was me practically shouting "Oh my God! He's peeing in the pool!" So I know she was as embarrassed as could be. I really thought the whole thing was funny and couldn't help but laugh. I mean, c'mon. He's only 5. Granted my own kids don't do that but it's not like I was going to yell at him or anything. His mom took care of that. She even had him call me later to apologize.
She did ask me not to tell anyone, but when I said "Are you kidding! Now I have something to blog about!", she made me promise not to use his real name.
We have yet another busy weekend coming up. I swear this time of the year goes by in such a blur. Between soccer on the weekends as well as 2 days a week, boy scouts and birthday parties, and now karate, it's a mad house around here. Things will calm down for the month of January and then baseball season starts up. You'd think I would be a size 3 from all the running around I do. But alas, I am not. I also signed up for Wrapper's Delight. It's a cropping weekend in November. I get to go to Alabama and scrapbook!! I wish it were this weekend. I can't wait!! My friend Michelle told me about it and we are going to go together. Fun, Fun, FUN!!

I didn't break anything!!
Today was such a busy day for me. Tonight, I had my first soccer game in over 20 years. I know that we are out there to have fun, but I was really nervous that I was going to mess up. We lost, but I consider the game a total success, because my goal was to leave with all my bones intact. And it worked! I didn't break anything at all!! I did flip over our goalie though. I was running and couldn't stop, so when she went down, I went right over her! I was fine, but I accidentally hurt her neck. I felt terrible. I watch my kids play and try to offer them advice on what to do to help their game. However, when it comes time for me to play, I found out real quick that it's harder than it looks. My kids wanted to come and watch, but in the end no one did. It doesn't bother me, especially since I didn't play very much. Our team has the same players every year, with only a couple of us "newbies". Naturally, he put the girls he knows in a whole lot more than us. Our team doesn't practice, so I guess he's just feeling us out to see what we have for skills. Anyhow, I downed about 64 ounces of water in less than 2 hours. I certainly got my workout tonight. This might prove to be great for weight loss!! Here's hoping.
This afternoon I went to my friend Michelle's Stampin Up! open house. Fun, fun, fun!! It was nice getting together with other women that enjoy the same hobby and just talking and creating. The hard part is deciding what to buy. I want it all! I wish I was better at it though. Some people are just so talented. Life's not fair. *sniff, sniff*

Just another day...
So today started off a little rough. First, I let my daughter, Maeve sleep with me last night. She has never slept in my bed and really, really wanted to, Since she is still in a crib, I thought why not. I need to get her a bed soon, but she's never even tried to climb out, so why rush, right? My goodness, that child was WIDE awake until 10pm when I practically yelled at her that it was time to go to sleep. I think that she was just excited, but I was tired. All through the night that little girl kept waking me up with kicks to my kidneys! Thank God that I put up a side railing or she would have been on the floor. Anyhow, I was so stiff and sore when I finally crawled out of bed. I only had about 15 minutes to get up and dressed and out the door to take Declan to an open house at a local martial arts studio. He had a blast and for the short time I was there watching, it looked really cool. He stayed with some friends and was able to spend about 2 hours on the floor doing the moves. He even broke a board with his foot on the first try! He brought it home and has promised not to hit his brother or sisters with it! He truly had a great time and now wants his birthday party there. After watching for a bit, I had to leave and take Aislinn to her first soccer game. I'm not sure why the kids were so surprised that it was hot out. I mean, we live in Georgia and it's summer. What did they expect! Her team was slaughtered 10 - 0. Of course, as we were on our way back to the car, I asked Aislinn if I could have some of her Gatorade. She was given a Gatorade and ice water after the game and had not had any of the Gatorade yet. I was also holding her iced tea, but it was sitting in the sun with me for an hour, so I know it was warm. She actually told me no. Can you imagine?! I gave BIRTH to that child and she will not even let me have anything to drink!! She told me I could have her iced tea! I am truly amazed with her sometimes. How selfish can you be? I take her to practice twice a week and then to her game where I get to sit in the hot sun with no drink and she can't even share! I think there might be some hostility left over from this afternoon, don't you think?
My husband left shortly after I got home to Atlanta. He goes every now and then for acupuncture. I love that. It really cures all ailments. I had it when I was preggo with Maeve for a severe case of carpal tunnel where it felt like my arm was on fire from the inside all the way up to my shoulder. When I say it was excruciating, it's an understatement. After one treatment, it has never come back. Maybe it can help with weight loss? It's worth a try.
I am really looking forward to tomorrow. At 1:00 I get to go to my friend Michelle's house for her SU! open house. I can't wait. Michelle is sooo talented and really makes the most awesome things. After that, I have MY first soccer game at 6pm. I haven't played in, oh...22 years. This should be fun. We are the Pink Panthers. I love that name. Much better than the Pocket Rockets, another team we play. The last thing I want my kids yelling from the sidelines is "Go Pocket Rockets!" That's the name of a vibrator! Give me Pink Panthers any day. Hopefully I won't hurt my knee any more than I already have. It is still black and blue from last Sunday when I fell in a friend's garage! I swear if it doesn't get any better this week, I am getting it x-rayed.

Proud to be an American
Do you remember?
Do you remember where you were and what you were doing?
I do. I remember thinking what is this world coming to? My children have to live in a world that does this to each other! It's makes me so sad.
I finally saw the movie United 93 a couple of days ago. It was a good movie, but for the last few seconds until the credit start to run, you just sit there. Silent. You realize that it's non fiction and your eyes fill with tears. My cousin's husband was scheduled to be on that flight. However, because his son's birthday is today, he changed his flight and took the last one home on the evening of the 10th so he could be there for his son. Because he was across the country on business, his company had made all his travel arrangements. They were not aware that he made any changes. The phone rang early at their house, because it was thought Jim was on board, and had died. Thankfully, her family avoided a horrible tragedy. Unfortunately, not everyone was so lucky.
I just watched a few videos on You Tube of the attacks. It still makes me sick. It's like a train wreck. You know what the outcome is going to be, but for some reason you cannot turn away. I only hope that in each plane, before the crashes, God took the souls of those on board and brought them home to Him. How else could He let this happen to so many innocent victims?
As my daughter and I were on our way to soccer practice tonight, I heard the song "Proud to be an American". It always gives me chills, brings a tear to my eye and makes me sing it out loud. I am so proud at the way this country rallied around each other, and looked out for each other after the attacks. Thank God for the job our military does to protect us all from ever having to experience September 11, 2001 again. I am so glad to be an American.

Fried Green Tomatoes
Happy Wednesday! Today started off nicely at my house. Seriously. The kids all got up on time and neither of the dogs were outside howling at the early hour of 6am. I'm sure my neighbors were pleased. I know I was. And, to top it all off, Maeve slept in!! Ah, these are the days. My husband called me mid-morning and asked if I wanted to go to lunch. With HIM!! He took me to a fabulous place called The Fresh Market. They have great seafood, not to heavy on the breading. For an appetizer, I ordered Fried Green Tomatoes with lump Crab Meat. Yum-O! I guess I'm really in the south, now. It made me wonder though, are the tomatoes grown to be green? Or are they just picked too early? I think they would taste great with some provolone cheese melted on top. Mmm. My daughter only wanted crackers and french fries. How's that for healthy. My husband had somre grouper with horseradish and grilled okra. I think I could get used to the food in the south. Now if someone would only learn how to properly make pizza and chinese food, I'd be all set!!
I had to head over to the Springer Opera house after lunch to exchange some tickets. A few friends and I are going to see Menopause, the Musical in a couple of weeks. I cannot wait! It is supposed to be hysterical. I guess I should pay attention in case I start heading down that road soon.
Later tonight, I get to go to Aidan's boy scout meeting. I think we register for camping, too. I took him last October and it was an experience I will NEVER forget. Joe didn't want to go, instead he volunteered to stay home with the other 3 kids. I think he knew something I didn't.
I had never been camping before. I had never even slept in a tent for that matter. Instead of trying to put up the tent before the trip (so I would know what I was doing), I waited until we got to the campground (read: woods) and tried to put up our tent. It is a 7 person tent, with a pet dome. Nothing small here. Not knowing what to expect, I didn't bring any extra blankets, or a light. My son didn't even want smores because the stick was dirty! I swear, I am the only person who's son doesn't like germs! Of course, he may have been onto something because I ate the smores and was sick later that night. Even though it was cold during the night, and there were coyotes howling, spiders inside the tent, AND *gasp* we had over 100 people sharing a single bathroom, we did manage to have a good time. And Aidan wants to go back. Maybe it's like childbirth. You forget the horrible parts and willingly enter into it again. I hope so.

Typical day
Well, I tried to blog before another week went by and it looks like I just made it. I've had another busy week here. Last Monday night I watch the season premier of Prison Break. I LOVE that show. There is nothing better than sitting in my bed, all the kids in their beds and watching Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell in Prison Break. Except having chocolate chip ice cream at the same time. I'll try that tonight. My husband can't understand my fascination with that show. I've never missed an episode yet. He gave up after the first season. He says it's not believable. Um, so what? The actors are cute. That's reason enough for me to keep tuning in!
Also this past week we went to dinner for my friend Michelle's birthday. We were outnumbered when it came to the adult/child ratio. There were only 6 adults and 8 kids. All under 10. I had never been to Red Robin, but apparently on Tuesday nights the big red robin walks around and says hello to all the kids. The kids loved that and a few of them got up to dance with him. My daughter thought he was a duck and was quacking at him!!
This past Sunday, we went to visit my friend Tina and her kids who had to evacuate New Orleans. A bunch of us friends used to live in the same neighborhood until one by one, we each moved away. It had been 2 years since seeing them and it was nice to visit. My son Aidan, and Tina's son, David, used to be really good friends. Both boys wanted to know if the other looked the same! It's funny what kids think of. Anyhow, we were at Tina's brother's house (which is absolutely beautiful) when I walked into the garage after my 3 year old. Their garage floor sits about 2 inches above the driveway. You can see where this is going, right? I tripped and went sliding across the floor. It was probably only a few inches, but it may as well have been all the way across. Both my knees were skinned, I hurt both hands, one of which bruised, and my right shoulder was killing me. Just call me graceful. I guess Noreen's (Tina's sil) mother is a nurse and she had me on the recliner with my leg elevated and ice on my knee! I have to say that if I fell at my house, I would have been stepped over. No, really. How nice to be fussed and fretted over! I actually felt very bad and jokingly asked Noreen if she had homeowner's insurance! And since I'm sure you are concerned about me, I'm fine.

Another week gone by already?!
While I would love to be able to update my blog more often, I find that there's not enough time in the day. At night, when all the kids are asleep and I have the time, I have no energy and just want to go to sleep. After they come home from school, I have the energy, but dammit, the kids want to TALK to me!! When are they going to get into the stage where they come home from where ever and head straight into their rooms and don't come out until the next morning? Apparently not yet. Anyhow, this weekend was pretty good. On Saturday morning, I took Aislinn and Aidan to the Columbus Airport. Aislinn was thinking I was taking her on a trip (with no luggage??). Instead, the airport has a Young Eagles program where someone explains the parts of a small plane and then takes them up for a short 15 minute flight. Sounds like fun, right?
Not to Aislinn. She was ready to cry! As a matter of fact, she refused to go up unless I did. I hate to fly. Really, really hate it. My plan was to keep my feet firmly on the ground and take pictures, but noooo. I ended up going with them. This itty, bitty plane only holds 4 people, including the pilot. Aidan was the co-pilot and had a blast!
While we were slowly heading over to the end of the runway, the pilot told me to hold my foot outside the door to prop it open. That would be our air conditioning. I'm thinking "Is he serious?" There is no way I want my foot hanging out the door while we are flying over Columbus! What if my shoe flies off my foot? Some poor soul out for a nice morning walk could get struck by my flip flop if it were to hit them on the head! Could I get sued for that? So, I decide to take my shoe off and leave it in the plane. But thankfully, he shuts the door right before take-off. It was a really nice flight and I was not nervous at all, until I heard the pilot tell Aidan, my 9 YEAR OLD, to head for the runway so he could land us! WHAT!! This child does not even ride his bike and the pilot expects him to land a plane! I think the real reason the pilot wears those large head phones is so that he can't hear the moms on the plane screaming. After the bumpy landing, Aislinn asks me what that smell is. It's the rubber from the wheels when we hit the runway. When I got home, I took a nice 4 hour nap. Sunday was nice. I woke up Aislinn and Declan at 5am so we can leave by 5:30 to head over to Callaway Gardens for the balloon launch. They have a really nice Hot Air balloon festival every year. This year there was about 14 balloons. It starts Friday night and there are all sorts of family activities that last all weekend long. So anyway, I waited until Sunday morning to go. We get there at 6 and have breakfast. Then I find a nice spot right at the ropes where we sit so I can get great pictures of the balloons all lit up. And we wait. And wait. Mind you, the seat I was on had been out all night and while it was comfy, it apparently had dew on it, so my butt was getting all wet after waiting for 30 minutes. With my 5 year old telling me he is bored. I told him too bad, we were not leaving until I saw a balloon. Well finally the Re/Max balloon inflates and rocks back and forth. It's too windy. Great. No lift off today. As a matter of fact, there might not even be tethered rides! All weekend everything was fine, until Sunday! It figured. So, we watch the 5K race, and a few other things. Much to my surprise, the person in charge decides to have the rides after all! Yea!! Of course, I have Aislinn with me, who for some reason doesn't like her feet to leave the ground anymore! Unless I go too. I tell the woman that I am not flying, I am taking pictures, to which she replies that she will take a quick shot of the 3 of us, and then we can all go as a family. Thanks. So up we go. Surprisingly, Declan stays inside the basket and doesn't even try once to shimmy down the tethered rope!!

Back to Business
Yea! The hubby and kids are back. (I think they brought the rain with them, too.) Joe said that even though they had not so good weather, he had a great time. My sil and bil had never met Maeve before and haven't seen Joe or Declan in 5 years! That's too long for family to go without seeing each other. Anyhow, Joe was able to take Declan kayaking, to the beach and played mini golf with him. Now, my son wants to move to Hilton Head! Naturally, he was not too happy about having to go back to school today. They also brought home gifts for the other kids so they wouldn't feel too left out. My sil found a scrapbook store and picked up some paper and things for me and she also sent Joe home with a box full of Stampin Up! ink and stamp sets for me! Gotta love that! I can't wait to play with everything!!

Zzzz....
Can you guess what I did today? I took a nap!! It's been so long since I did that and I have to confess, it felt fabulous! I did get up and go walking at 5:00. Then after practically dragging my daughter out of bed (at almost 7!) I was able to get them to school on time. Day 1: so far, so good. Of course, I come home and lie down, which naturally causes the phone to ring. It's my husband calling to say good morning to me! Personally, I think he was calling to make sure we were up and out of bed. However, after we hung up, I fell asleep and slept until noon, when Molly's barking woke me up. I never intended to sleep that long so hopefully I can sleep tonight. Oh, yes, I also went and got a pedicure! I just love those. I don't get them often enough. I did not, however, spend the entire day pampering myself. I managed to do the required checking of homework, feeding the kids dinner, etc. I also completely cleaned out the back yard, swept and mopped the kitchen floor, dusted and vacuumed the house and did several loads of laundry. Tommorrow I get to take the animals to the vet for a bath. Hey, I'm not ambitious enough to tackle that on my own. I will be at the Scrapbook Shoppe, that's more my speed. Have a nice night.

Did I seriously HAVE to say that?!
Because I am such a cool mom, I told each of my kids that they could have someone stay over last night. So shortly after Joe and the kids left, we picked up Aidan's friend, Jared. (Aislinn's friend didn't get to come over until 9:30 last night because she had a ton of things to do during the day). So anyhow, I take the 3 kids and we go to Target (my favorite store!) so we can load up on junk food, then head over to the movies. The boys saw the new Star Wars movie and Aislinn and I saw Space Chimps. What a waste of an afternoon that movie turned out to be, but I was happy to be able to spend some time with just Aislinn. After that, we went to McDonald's, then home. The boys were fine playing outside or with the Wii. Then Aislinn's friend came over and it was as if they had never seen another girl before that wasn't related to them! I certainly hope I never acted like a complete fool in front of the opposite sex before. They would not leave the girls alone. Finally I told the kids, at 10:30pm, I was going to bed, but that I didn't care if they stayed up all night, however the boys had to stay in Aidan's room because the girls would be sleeping in the living room. Aidan has a TV as well as the Nintendo Gamecube in his room so it's not like they had nothing to do. Besides it was late and I figured they would crash soon. I was wrong. Aislinn and Amy stayed up playing on the computer, and at 1:30am, Aislinn comes in my room, wakes me up to tell me that the boys went outside to play!! Hello, it's pitch black outside! So naturally I jump out of bed, God only knows what I looked like, and when I went to the garage to get them, Aidan was opening the door to come back in and get some toy he forgot. Well, one look at me and he knew he was in for it. I know that I said that they could stay up all night, but did I seriously have to tell them that I meant INSIDE THE HOUSE?!? Of course, they went right back in the bedroom. Aidan's reason for going outside: they were bored. WHAT?? Not only did they go outside, but they let out Murphy at the same time, so now I have a loose dog that HOWLS if he's alone in the dark. Boy, were my neighbors going to be happy with me! Now I am so tired, not to mention mad and before I can go back to sleep, I need to find the dog. It's a nightmare. So today Jared's dad comes over to get his son in the morning (they went back out to play at 8am) and I take Aidan and the girls to lunch at a pizza place, then we head over to Petland. Because it's so much fun to play with all the puppies and then leave. After running a few more errands we head home in time for supper. I'm going to bed soon. 5:00 am comes really early and I have to go running with my neighbor. At least the kids go back to school tomorrow so I can have some "ME" time. I can't wait.

While the Cat's Away...
Today, my husband left for a week's vacation to Hilton Head, SC. He took the youngest 2 kids with him. It would have been really, really nice to all go as a family, but with the older 2 kids just starting school, we didn't want them to miss any days already, let alone an entire week. My mil has a friend who has several time shares there, and since she wasn't going to use them, my mil rented 2 of them! My mil, sil and her husband are also going. I hope they have a great time and the weather is good. I miss my Joe and the kids already. However...during the week, while my kids are in school, I am going to be ALL ALONE!!! I have big plans for myself. I plan on spending the week working on my scrapbooks. And reading. And watching chick flicks. And taking naps. And maybe a pedicure and a nice haircut. Something tells me that next Saturday will be here before I know it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Today I wanted to say Happy Birthday to a very dear friend of mine. We first met each other in 5th grade, when we were 10 years old. She lives in New England (where I am from), and although we don't see each other often, I can call her up any time and we will spend hours on the phone catching up. It's great to have a girlfriend like that! So, Happy Birthday, Jen!!

New recipes
I've decided that every once in a while I will ad a recipe of something new I've made (and like), from scratch! Anyone who knows me can tell you that I'm no Betty Crocker. So if I make anything from scratch, it's a HUGE deal! Usually I only make Christmas cookies this way and they come out really good. Anyhow, what I've made this week is called Triple Cheese Macaroni. As any southern woman worth her salt will tell you, you cannot make, let alone eat, macaroni and cheese from a box no matter how cute and adorable the kid on the cover is. As it happens, I am from up north, so Kraft products usually fare pretty well in my kitchen. I thought I'd try something new. All I can say is Oh. My. God! This was sooo good! It will take a little bit for my kids to get used to this. They enjoy the processed stuff so much. The only thing about this recipe is that even though it says it will feed 6, those 6 people had better have very big appetites, because I was eating this for 4 days!! Here goes, and if you make it, let me know what you think...
1 package (16 oz) elbow macaroni
2 eggs
1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
1/4 cup butter, melted
2 TBS prepared mustard
1 tsp seasoned salt
1 tsp pepper
8 oz process cheese (Velveeta), melted
2 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese, divided
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
Cook macaroni according to package direction. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, butter, mustard, seasoned salt and pepper until combined. Stir in the process cheese and 1-1/2 cups of each cheddar cheese.
Drain macaroni; stir into cheese mixture. Pour into greased 3-qt. baking dish. Bake, uncovered, at 350* for 25-30 minuted or until cheese is melted and edges are bubbly. Yield: 6 servings.

It's the most wonderful time of the year!
It's been a few days since my last post and things have been very busy around here. The other night I took my 3 oldest kids to meet their new teachers. They liked them, so I'm hoping this will be a good school year. Then on Wednesday, it was the first day of school!! This always reminds me of the commercial I saw on TV years ago with the man riding on the shopping cart in a store like Office Depot or someplace buying school supplies with his kids dragging behind him! I loved that commercial. So anyhow, off I take them to school at 7:20am. Yes, I know that school doesn't start until 8, and we only live 3 miles away, but who wants to be late? Certainly not I. I had to practically drag my kids out of bed, too! I mean really. The first day and they can't get up? I can see if it was halfway through the year, but the first day?!? Then on top of that, I brought my camera. My kids are well aware that I scrapbook and should have expected me to have it with me. I thought my daughter would die of embarassment. Fortunately, her teacher was in the hallway so I was able to snap a quick photo before anyone could see me and therefor make her the laughing stock of the 5th grade. She stiffly smiled, then bolted inside the classroom without so much as a goodbye. Hmmph. I'll get her back. Wait til I show up for lunch one day and sit with her! Anyhow, as for my kindergardener, he already knows the school and we had to stop several times on the way to his class so that last years teachers can welcome him back with hugs and everything. We get to his class and he makes himself right at home. He likes when I take his picture, so I got several. On to my 4th grader's class. It is outside in a portable. At least they have air conditioning so it's bearable. I was allowed only to the doorway and when I stuck my head inside the room, I casually mentioned to the teacher that I wanted to get a picture of him and Aidan. I think Aidan turned a new shade of red while he glared at me. His teacher leaned in to him and he leaned away! My kids are such goofballs. Anyhow, my son knows me well enough that if he says anything to me, I'll just walk him to class in my fuzzy bunny slippers, bathrobe and coffee cup. Hey, I've done it before. I managed to get one shot of him and then left. So far, they like school. It's only been 3 days, but first impressions are everything. Aidan has also had homework everyday, while Aislinn was already given a project to do! What do I like about this school? It's MUCH closer than the school they went to last year. This is only 3 miles away, but last year the school was at least 20 miles away. And, they don't have to wear a uniform, which is a plus in my daughter's eyes.
What else...oh yes. I am now getting up to go jogging at 5am. It's much cooler then, but pitch black. I asked the woman across the street if she wanted to run.. What a mistake! She is nice and everything, but she is in the Army. Needless to say, she is in much better shape than I am. I was able to keep up with her for the most part, but there were a few times when I had to stop and walk. She just jogged in circle around me! I think I liked it better when I was alone. At least I didn't feel so out of shape. If I could just eat better I'm sure the extra weight would fall right off me. I say this, then today I went to McDonald's. What's wrong with me? Then my husband calls me while I'm eating. I don't answer the phone, so now I have more guilt. After he calls me the 3rd time, I call him back and tell him what I've been doing, but I leave out the fast food part. So now, I'm heading home and who's there..my husband! So I got caught eating what I should be staying away from. I can't get away with anything!! Serves me right. Maybe now I'll learn. Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe. Who am I kidding. Til next time....

My baby's birthday!
Yes, I know. I changed the blog name again. I decided that "Running with Scissors" sounds too much like an Indian name! Not that there's anything wrong with that. I just want something else.
Well, today is my youngest daughter's birthday! She is 3 years old. I can't believe it. Time has gone by so fast. All she wanted was cake! It's so nice at this age. Pretty soon she will want a cell phone and Wii games. At least that is the stage my 10 years old is at. She has already given me a wish list for her birthday, and it's not for 2 more months yet!!
My high school reunion was last weekend. I didn't go. At first I was bummed out, but when I think about it, it's not like I talk to many of the kids I went to school with anyhow. And those I really want to see, I talk to. There was one girl in particular, although she didn't graduate with me, that I was practically joined at the hip with. I haven't spoken to her in over 10 years. Long story. She called me out of the blue today. Boy, was THAT a long conversation. I spent over 2 1/2 hours on the phone with her. There is so much going on in her life right now. The least of which is divorce. I swear, practically everyone I know is getting a divorce or just got a divorce! I am staying away from these people!! I don't want my husband getting any ideas. My life is so dull compared to other people's lives and I just decided that I like it that way.

Blog name change
I know, I've changed the name of my blog several times already, but I'm trying to find something that I like. There are so many choices out there, it's hard to stick with just one. Hmmm, sounds very much like choosing a man!!
Well, I finished up my boot camp! Yea!! I no longer HAVE to get up at the ungodly hour of 4:30am. I must say that I really enjoyed it though. As a matter of fact, I was out running errands today and ran into my son's preschool teacher from this past year. She looked surprised to see me and said "Wow! You can tell you've lost weight. I mean, you have lost A LOT!" I was very excited to hear her say that, and definitely left with a big smile on my face thinking to myself "Damn girl, you must be looking good!" I mean who doesn't like a little praise every now and then? However, the more I think about it, just how big did she think I was? I've only lost 20 pounds. So, I'm thinking of going back. We'll see. I did order a video online today that is a weight loss video, but teaches you dance moves. I can't wait to get it and try it out. No, it's not the video by Carmen Electra that teaches you stripper moves. Can you imagine? Standing in the living room, obviously overweight and trying to dance and look all sexy!! I laugh out loud at the image alone!! Although, I might buy a pair of high heels, after all...when was the last time you saw someone really sexy and in shape wearing house slippers?

The early bird gets ... me!
'Tis the season for baby birds to start hatching and learning to fly. We have a nest in our garage. It has 2 little babies in it. I haven't told my boys that it's there because I know what will happen. Either they knock the nest down and the birds get hurt, or worse, I will find the babies in their room one day with my 5 year old trying to feed it something that he's already chewed up! So I'm keeping my secret. This past weekend I took Declan over to his friend's house. They have a bird's nest right above the front doorway. It is filled with baby birds. While we were looking up at them, the babysitter opened the door to let my son in. As I started to go inside, a bird flew down and hit me in the head! As first I thought it gave me a present, so naturally I yelled obscenities. But then as I realized I was still clean, it flew in the house! Have you ever tried to catch a bird? I was chasing it with a sneaker and flip flop. My idea was to scoop it up in the shoe, cover it with the flip flop and gently release it back outside. No, I wasn't drinking. Why do you ask? Of course, at the front door every relative of this baby bird within miles was flying all around the front door and chirping very loudly. It was like a scene from the Hitchcock movie. There was no way we were opening the door even if we could catch it. We managed to corner it in a bathroom and shut the door. Fortunately the babysitter lives across the street and she was able to have her dad come over and he got the bird out of the house. disclaimer: no animals were hurt in the typing of this post.

My cuties
I thought I'd try to upload a few pictures of my kids. The first one is of Aislinn and Aidan. This was taken at Chili's. We had gone there for Aidan's birthday. He wanted to go someplace to eat where they would sing to him! At least it wasn't the mexican place where they make you wear a sombrero and sing in Spanish!!
The next picture is of my 5 year old son, Declan. He had just lost his first tooth and asked that I take his picture! He is my most affectionate child, always wants to play with you, and loves life!
The next shot is of my 2, soon to be 3 year old girl, Maeve. She is such a happy child. Her favorite things to do right now include playing with her dolls, having a tea party and coloring on the kitchen table! She is my little sweetheart and I dread the day she starts school and leaves me.
Finally, I have a picture of my dog Molly! This dog will put up with anything Maeve throws at her. We were having a tea party and Maeve decided to dress up the poor dog as Cinderella. Molly just looked at me with pleading eyes. I think she was probably mortified that the other dogs in the neighborhood might catch wind of this and she would forever be shunned! Don't worry Molly. Your secret is safe with me!!
